David Eugene Williams, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Visitation was at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service immediately followed at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating.

The Pallbearers will be Jeremy Raley, Michael Long, David Doan, Bobby Thompson, Gunner Raley, Kooper Doan and Hunter Long. Interment was in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.

David was born on September 21, 1945, in Clarksville, Texas to Rudie Seth and Sudie Katherine (Edwards) Williams. He married Pamela Joe Gandy on November 9, 1985, in Winfield, Texas.

David was a part of the Texas Association of School Administrators, and he had a Masters of Education degree. David began his teaching career in January 1968 and worked as a devoted educator for 33 years.

He worked as a teacher in Avinger and Mount Vernon. He served as the principal at Avinger and Roxton ISD. David was the superintendent of Wilson and Savoy ISD.

David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Franklin County Genealogical Society, and the Republican Party. He was a supporter of all the grandchildren and their activities. David started the “It all started in Johntown, Texas” Facebook page and posted frequently.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudie and Sudie Williams; brothers, Ed Williams and Jim Williams; sisters, Joyce Dodd and Goldie Christine Williams; and one grandchild, Peyton Doan.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Pam Williams; daughters and their spouses, Sarah and Michael Long, Jamie and David Doan; a son and his spouse, Jeremy and Heather Raley all of Mount Vernon; Grandchildren, Allysa Williams-Morgan, Kori Doan, Gunner Raley, Braylea Brown, Kooper Doan, Brentlea Raley and Hunter Long; brother, Tommy Joe and wife, Linda, Williams; niece Kathie and Bobby Thompson and their children Jessica Thompson and Jordan Thompson; Nieces, Anna Kay and Gary Moore, Charlotte Crow, Denise Roberts, and Sabrina Fuchs; nephews, Stacey and BJ Dodd, Jimmy Wright and Roger Wright and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family.
