Five senior students were presented Lamar Medals were presented by the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge #691 in ceremonies May 19 at the lodge hall on the south service road to I-30. Honorees from Mount Vernon and Saltillo high schools were recognized.
This year $238,080 in local area scholarships were reported by 46 of the 121 graduating seniors at Mount Vernon High School. This represents about 38 percent of the class who will have some level of assistance in pursuing a college degree, certification or vocational training in their desired field of study.
The Mount Vernon High School 2023 graduating class has among them young men who have chosen to continue learning and perhaps a career in the service of their country. These six have joined one of the branches of the United States military.
