For the 30th consecutive month Texas showed job growth, reaching just under 14 million jobs and outpacing the nation in its annual rate of employment growth, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. “Our world-class Texas workforce has grown by more than 400,000 jobs over the last year, thanks largely to the energizing job creation by our private- sector employers,” said TWC commissioner Aaron Demerson.

The Study covers only one Battery Energy Storage System (a lithium-ion system called a BESS).

Paxton trial completes first week

Capital Highlights The first week of suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial in the Senate ended with his former lead law enforcement officer testifying an Austin developer alleged to have bribed Paxton constructed a “conspiracy theory” that federal officials altered a search warrant for his property, the Austin American-Statesman reported. David Maxwell, the former AG official, said real estate developer Nate Paul pushed Paxton to investigate federal law enforcement agencies probing his business.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following was a reply from Gary E. Smith, attorney representing three individuals seeking a permanent injunction to halt 13 developers of massive solar projects in and around Franklin County. The News asked for his comment after the release of the opinion released from the Office of the Attorney General regarding local efforts to have the County Commissioners Court halt the projects by their actions. Smith’s reply reached us a full day after our deadline for even minor changes in stories. The News’ story on that AG Opinion appeared in the August 24, 2023 issue.

Texans asked to conserve energy during heat wave

The agency that operates the power grid for much of the state asked Texans to conserve energy use several times last week as the grid was beset with high demand and low wind-power generation, according to the Austin American- Statesman. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has asked electric users to reduce energy use as the state continues to face a tenacious heat wave.

Once again, the Mount Vernon ISD Board of Trustees have brought forward another school bond. The Board has not made any changes to lower the present long term tax burden on the community.
