Ann Hughes Stevens, a beloved resident of Mount Vernon, peacefully entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in Mount Vernon, Texas, on August 3, 1937, to Morris and Mildred Black Hughes.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Mildred Hughes, beloved husband Horace O. Stevens, brother Gaines Hughes, sister Betty Hughes Schneider, nephew Russell Schneider, and niece Janie Hughes Bynum.

Ann is survived by her loving daughter Susan Rader and husband Mike, cherished grandchildren Steven Rader and Sara Rader. Also mourning her passing are nephews Jimmy Hughes and wife Rita, Joe Hughes, great nephews Richard Hughes and wife Heather with their family, Jason Hughes and wife Cody with their family, great niece Leslie James and husband Ryan with their family, great niece Holly Parson and husband Joe. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law Jo Ann Hughes, brother-inlaw Peter Schneider, and cousins BF Hicks, John Hicks, Sidney Hicks, Mavis Brush, and Shirley McLeod and husband Warren.

Known for her love for family, Hereford cattle, books, the Cowboy Channel, Fox News, and the Dallas Cowboys, Ann held a special place in the hearts of those she cherished.

A Graveside Service to honor Ann was held Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Hughes, Joe Hughes, Richard Hughes, Jason Hughes, Ryan James, and Sidney Hicks. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
