Frankie William Sweeden, born in Dallas on April 4, 1944, drew his last earthly breath Sept. 11, 2023, surrounded by his family and the love of his life, Edna, his wife of 60 years. Frank, known by most who loved him as Butch or Pop, moved with his wife to Mount Vernon in 2000 to be closer to his children and more importantly his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Berger officiating. Phillip Sweeden, Mason Sweeden, Marshall Sweeden, Chandler Whitson, Carsen Whitson, and Jason Speer serving as pallbearers. Jeff Whitson serving as honorary pallbearer. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon City Cemetery.

In his early years, Butch grew up in Dallas and met the love of his life, Edna Nell Roderick, and they married on August 9, 1963. They had two beautiful children, and he was a devoted family man. He believed that family was everything. He had pride in both his children, both of whom received college degrees, which allowed their father’s wishes of being better than the generations before and setting a precedent for the generations after.

Samuel High School in 1962, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps attending basic training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.

He served 8 years in the reserves as a Rifle Sharpshooter with the rank of Lance Corporal. Frank also became an endowed member of the James Ladd Burgess Lodge #1305 AF & AM and served faithfully for decades serving the Dallas and surrounding communities during Christmas and times of need with food baskets and visiting individuals who were ill or confined.

As an active member of the Scottish Rite; he volunteered several years for Hella Temple Shrine Circus.

He loved fishing in all the lakes of Texas so much he joined the Dallas Bass Club, fishing in numerous bass tournaments. His love for fishing brought the family together for weekend trips to the beautiful lakes of Texas as he loved to travel and visit new places.

Frank retired after 35 years from the Southland Corporation where his determination was on full display as he worked his way from the mailroom to becoming a Senior Computer Project Manager.

In his later years, while living in Mount Vernon, he spent most of his time devoted to his grandchildren. Pop is best known for having the right words to say and the perfect ear to bend. He was proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments and in recent years the younger two had become his righthand men.

Butch (Pop) is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edna Nell Sweeden; Daughter, Tricia Whitson and husband Jeff; Son, Phillip Sweeden and wife Aimee; Grandsons, Mason Sweeden and wife Stephanie, Marshall Sweeden and wife Lizeth, Chandler Whitson and Carsen Whitson and two beautiful great grandchildren, Nicolas Wayne Sweeden and Mason William Sweeden, Jr.; Siblings, Nancy Jones of Rusk, TX, Sherry Davis of Seagoville, TX, and John Sweeden and wife Mary of Lancaster, TX.

Frank was preceded in death by his father Jessie Lee Sweeden and his mother Yonna Jean Logan Sweeden.
