John Stuart Richey, age 67 of Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, in Tyler. He was born on November 27, 1955, in Winnsboro, Texas to the late Charlie Weldon Richey and Winnie Mae Evers Richey.

Stuart served in both the U.S. Navy and Army with tours in both Vietnam and Desert Shield. After hisdistinguished military career of 24-years, he received a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University and worked in several areas of law enforcement. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master of the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge.

Stuart and #39’s main love, however, was his singing and songwriting career and his horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jacob Richey; sister, Kay Shelton; and brother- in-law, Don Gibson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Charlotte Meek Richey of Mount Vernon; sons, Johnathan Richey of Scroggins, Joshua Richey of Alexandria, Kentucky, and Adam Sinclair of Midlothian; daughters, Amy Brison of Decatur and Ashley Medders of Dekalb; Sisters, Paula Thomas of Scroggins, Beverly Gibson of Garland, Rose Mary Gunn and husband, Mike, of Scroggins, Janis Crosby and husband, Bill, of Hideaway Lake, and Katherine Lacy and husband, Craig, of Mineola; brother-in-law, Edwin Shelton of Scroggins; Twelve grandchildren, Alyssa Richey, Nichole Richey, Isabella Richey, Jacob Richey, Landon Richey, Katy Slaven, Samuel Sinclair, Ava Sinclair, Emily Sinclair, Sarah Geney, Kyle Medders, and Colton Medders, along with one great-grandchild, Kash.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2023 in the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel, Winnsboro. Interment was at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery in Franklin County, Texas.
