Body

Linda Lee Weatherford Swinford, age 82, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, following a lengthy illness.

Born October 24,1940, in Franklin County, Texas, Linda was a welcome addition to the large, loving family of H. H.

“Doc” and Mary Lou (Brown) Weatherford.

She attended the Mount Vernon school system, and upon graduation from high school, she began working with the Mount Vernon Telephone Company and then First National Bank in Dallas.

On May 30, 1959, Linda married her sweetheart, Kennith Ray Swinford of Mount Vernon. They moved to Gladewater, Texas, where Ken had secured employment, and Linda joined the Gladewater Telephone Company.

After relocating to Dallas in the early 1960s, Linda and Ken were blessed with the addition of their daughter, Holly Renee, and later their son, Kennith Wayne (Kenny). After moving back to Mount Vernon in the 1970s, Linda and Ken built a loving home in the Hamilton Community, where they continued their faith-focused life.

Linda thoroughly enjoyed raising her children and creating a warm and caring environment for her family. A member of the Greenwood Baptist Church for many years, she often cared for others in the community by providing hot meals, desserts, or companionship. Linda was known for her lively sense of humor and loved family gatherings and spirited game nights, playing 42 dominoes, and card games.

When her daughter entered high school, Linda accepted a position at Jordan Health Services in Mount Vernon, where she retired after many years. During this time, she continued to put her family first, volunteering for school functions and attending Holly’s cheerleading and Kenny’s Ag events.

A cancer survivor, Linda credited her success in battling the disease to the support of her family and her strong Christian faith.

She drew upon faith and family once again when her health declined in recent years, but she still enjoyed the simple pleasures of peaceful walks in the country and spending time with her children.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Kennith Ray Swinford; her parents, Doc and Mary Lou Weatherford; sister, Elaine Weatherford Adams; brother, Rex Weatherford; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Frankie Newsome; and brother-in-law, Grady Teague.

She is survived by her daughter, Holly Swinford of Mount Vernon; and son, Kenny Swinford of Talco, Texas; siblings and their spouses: Jean Teague, Betty and Glen Zachary, Lex Weatherford, Ricky and Judy Weatherford; brother-in-law, Zack Adams of Talco; brother- in-law and sister-inlaw, John and Katherine DeBusk of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
