MVHS Girls Tennis Team Wins District

The Mount Vernon High School Lady Tigers won their first District UIL Championship in known school history.

The Mount Vernon High School Tennis teams competed in the District 13AAA Tennis Tournament and then sent three girls to compete at the Region I University Interscholastic League Tournament.

District Champion team members include Jet Bass, Maggie Lowery, Avery Burns, Emmi Jordan, Alea Minter, and Emmy McCamant. Jet Bass finished 2nd in Girls Singles. Avery Burns and Emmi Jordan Finished 2nd in Girls Doubles beating out Alea Minter and Emmy McCamant who finished 3rd. This was a very close competitive match that took over two hours to decide a winner. Maggie Lowery won her first match in Girls Singles before facing what would be the District Champ.

On the boys side David Rios won his first two matches before losing in the 3rd place match. David finished 4th in district. Ethan Nance and Trystan Dangerfield had good showing in boys doubles, along with Connor Richards in Boys Singles.

Mount Vernon took five girls to Regionals on April 11. Jet Bass competed In Girls Single and Emmi Jordan and Avery Burns competed in Girls Doubles. Alea Minter and Emmy McCamant went as alternates. All of our girls lost in the first round.

“Despite their loss, it is extremely hard to make it to regionals and our athletes represented MVHS with great pride and sportsmanship. All of our tennis kids worked really hard this year and I am excited about things to come,” said Coach Mark Bates.
