The Red Raiders came back from a 3-2 deficit to knock off Mount Vernon 5-3 in the final frame of Monday’s all-important contest to determine District 13-3A runner-up. Winnsboro entered the fray with an 8-2 record with both losses coming to district-leader Harmony. Mount Vernon stood 7-3 but had split with Harmony head-to-head.

The Red Raiders will face DeKalb, the thirdplace team out of District 14, in the bi-district round. They will play a best-of-three series at Longview High with game one Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Winnsboro will be the home team and reside in the thirdbase dugout. Game two is set for Friday, May 5, with a 6 p.m. first pitch and Winnsboro will be visitors (first-base dugout). If necessary, game three follows.

Winnsboro knocked out Quitman 13-2 in five runrule innings on April 21.

The team wraps up the district schedule Friday at MP Chapel Hill (2-9 record).
