Chayne Tedford with Inside-the-Park Round Tripper

The Red Raiders ran their District 13-3A record to 5-1 with wins over Mount Vernon 3-2 on March 31 and MP Chapel Hill 11-7 on April 4. This completes the team’s first pass through the District 13-3A field.

Winnsboro plays Thursday at winless Winona before facing undefeated Harmony on April 11. They have an April 14 bye before working through the last four district games.

It took a few frames to get rolling, but the Red Raiders were able to do just enough to claim the win over Mount Vernon.

Winnsboro struck first with a run in the bottom of the fourth and rang up two more in the fifth inning. Mount Vernon responded with a run in the top of the fifth and another in the top of the sixth. Macon Harrison recorded two hits and two RBIs, Camden Capehart scored one run on two hits, Chayne Tedford had one run on one hit with an RBI, and Skeet Brumley added a run. Daxon Worley pitched 5.1 innings, allowed two earned runs, and struck out four.

Ethan Arrington closed it down with no hits allowed and posted one strikeout. It was a solid outing for both freshmen pitchers.

Chapel Hill opened with two runs in the first, but Winnsboro countered with two runs in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth and two in the sixth scoring eight runs on 11 hits. Same pitching duo, but Arrington had the start and pitched five innings; he allowed two runs on one hit, no earned runs, walked three and struck out four. Worley sewed it up allowing a single hit and posting four strikeouts.

Tedford turned in a stellar performance at the plate with three runs on three hits and three RBIs including an insidethe park homerun in the fourth inning. Harrison recorded three hits, three RBIs, and a run. Aiden Hammons scored two runs with one hit and a walk. Nolee Carroll recorded two hits and an RBI.
