Tigers pick up two games

Mount Vernon High School’s Varsity tiger Baseball team earned back to back wins in the past seven days as they continue to work for one more win to lock in a playoff berth.

The Tigers are still third with a 63 district record. Mineola and Quitman are both tied at 5:5.

The varsity Tigers got a 9-4 win over Mount Pleasant’s Chapel Hill High School Red Devils Friday.

Chapel Hill was first to score with two runs in the third inning, but Mount Vernon pulled ahead in the fourt with six runs. They added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth, while holding the Red Devils to two more runs both in the sixth inning.

Cade Monroe, Brylon Bolin, Kam Doss, Carsen Summerlin and Landry Moss each collected a hint apiece. Bolin led in stolen bases with two. Moss’ single scored two runs, and Halen Miller drew a walk and brought in a run for the team.

The Tigers went 17-1 Monday night for the second win over the Winona Wildcats. Mount Vernon scored four in the first, one in the second, three in the third and nine in the fourth to take the game in five innings.

Leading the attack were walks by Kam Doss, Brylon Bolin and Cade Monroe. They were followed with a ground out by Noah Martin and a double by Mason Pope. Monroe doubled in the first inning to score three runs. Barrentine, Doss, Bolin Monroe Pope and Martin all drove in runs in their big fourth inning.

Halen Miller got credit for the victory. The right hander went five innings, allowing one runon three hits, striking out nine and walking one.

The Tigers will travel to Harmony to play the Eagles. Friday, and be on the road again Tuesday in Winnsboro, both games are at 7 p.m.
