Three Winnsboro student-athletes – David Soto, Hayden Deaton, and Faith Acker - have earned berths in the UIL Class 3A State Track and Field meet set for May 11 in Austin. The top two finishers in each discipline advanced out of the Region 2 meet on April 28-29 at Wildcat Stadium, Whitehouse.

Soto captured gold in the 3200- and 1600-meter runs. The senior set a personal best and Region 2 record in the 3200 with a time of 9 minutes, 19 seconds replacing the previous record by eight seconds. He posted a time of 4:22 in the 1600. Deaton grabbed the top spot in high jump with a height of 6 feet, 5 inches. It will be the senior’s third consecutive trip to State. He also placed third in the triple jump.

Acker took silver in the shot put with a toss of 35 feet, 3 inches.

Other top six performances at Region 2 belonged to Brandon Dunavant, who placed fourth in the 1600 and sixth in the 3200; Sol Torres, who placed fourth in long jump and sixth in the 200; Angel Hernandez, who placed fifth in discus; and Nico Payne, who placed sixth in high jump.

The boys team placed third overall with 56 team points out of 22 schools represented.
