The Winnsboro fishing team captured the Northeast Division crown for the Texas High School Bass Association with 494 points after edging Grand Saline with 493 and Rains with 492. This makes the fourth consecutive Team of the Year recognition for the Winnsboro anglers in a division stocked with 29 schools composed of 183 fishing duos.

Eleven of Winnsboro’s 14 fishing duos earned a regional berth. The regional tournament features contenders from Northeast, Central, and East Texas divisions with a field of 222 duos (top 74 out of each division qualify) and will take place Saturday, April 15, on Cedar Creek Lake. Weigh-ins take place at the City Park on Alamo Road in Log Cabin.

There are nine divisions in Texas and the top 30 percent of duos from each of the three regionals advance to the State Tournament that will be held May 20-21 on Lake Sam Rayburn.

The top duo for Winnsboro is Hayden Potts and Carston Moore with 2445 points. Potts and Moore are students at Como-Pickton and fish with the Winnsboro team. Skeet Brumley and Slayton Hood are third in overall standings with 2414 points. Ely Peckham and Porter South are ninth in the standings. As top 10 finishers of the season, these anglers will compete at regional, and have also qualified for the Angler of the Year tournament on Saturday, June 24, on Lake Palestine.

Other Winnsboro duos headed to regional are Gage Ivey and Cooper Standridge (16th place), Kale Robinson and Colten Freeman (21st), Aaron Blaser and Xander Lopez (31st), Galen Birdsong and Leon Ackerman (39th), Harlee Smith and Kaylee Spencer (42nd), Joshua Blair and Colton Blair (58th), Collin Petty and Kanyon Russom (61st), and Gunner Lovelady and Derrick Coffman (70th).
