Angler recognition program shines light on excellence

Body
TPWD The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Angler Recognition Program exists to recognize fishing excellence in Texas, and to further that purpose, TPWD staff recently completed a revitalization initiative for the program. The ARP was established in 1971 and maintains the fish record lists for all public and private waterbodies across the state, inspiring anglers to get outside and enjoy the water.

Return to the YO Ranch

Body
As my friend Jeff Rice and I drove the serpentine road leading into the heart of the famous Y O Ranch Headquarters in the Texas Hill Country on a crisp spring day last week, my mind backtracked a quarter century to when I was invited to hunt this beautiful ranch. Here I was again, a much older hunter now feeling the same awe that I felt many years earlier.

Try a Roma tomato this year

Body
Roma tomatoes are a determinate variety and grow more as a bush than a vine. The produce flowers at stem tips, and where tomatoes develop all at once. This results in a quick and highly prolific production cycle, which is great for canning. Fruit production ends by mid to late July. You can expect 55-62 fruit per plant. As a determinate, pruning is not necessary.
