The Mount Vernon Middle School and Mount Vernon High School cheer teams competed at the NCA (National Cheerleaders Association) High School Nationals and secured national championship titles. The MVMS Cheer Team brought home the Middle School/Junior High Game Day National Champion title, as well as the Sideline Spirit Award and the Technical Excellence Award.

Former NHL player on trial

It was the opening week of one of the biggest celebrity trials in Mount Vernon’s history, the first jury trial in more than six years. Female victims gave emotional testimony for the past several days, many times through tears, detailing how former NHL’s Dallas Stars center alleged raped and made unwanted physical contact while out on Lake Cypress on June 23, 2021.

AgriLife research study may lead to novel obesity treatment

A team comprised primarily of Texas A&M AgriLife Research scientists has made an important discovery that could lead to a novel treatment for obesity and obesity-associated diseases or conditions. Details of the discovery can be found in the study “Nutrient-sensing growth hormone secretagogue receptor in macrophage programming and meta-inflammation,” published in the January issue of Molecular Metabolism.
