Two Franklin County All-Star teams will advance to state tournament play and two others finished their 2023 season this past weekend as Mount Vernon prepares to host the eight and under state tournament July 7-9.

Porter South and Ely Peckham along with boat captain Brian South cracked the Top 25 in the state at the Texas High School Bass Association Angler of the Year Tournament held June 24 on Lake Palestine.

Congratulations to the Winnsboro 12 and Under All-Star Softball Team for their advancement to the Ranger Softball State Tournament July 14-16. These girls fought hard all weekend in the heat, playing four back to back games Sunday to make it into the Championship game where they battled to the very end.

The six and under girls softball team and 14 and under boys baseball team closed their seasons this past weekend in post season summer All-Star youth sports action. Never worry, there are more games to come this weekend within easy driving distance.

All MVISD athletes were called to return to summer conditions training Wednesday, June 21, after power was returned to the school’s campuses Tuesday. Coach Clayton George announced that the suspended sessions were back on with junior high girls sessions beginning at 8 a.m.

The Red Raiders amassed 43 points and finished the 2022-23 year tied for 16 th in the UIL Lone Star Cup standings. The Cup honors the best athletic and academic programs throughout the state divided by classification and is sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance.
