District 13-3A champion Lady Raiders shed bi-district opponent Redwater with no trouble in a best-of-three series and will move into the second round with games versus Troup, the runner up out of District 16, at Longview. Game one is Thursday, May 4, and game two follows Friday, May 5. Both games with 6 p.m. first pitch. If necessary, game three occurs Saturday, May 6, at 5 p.m., also at Longview.

The Rugged Red wrapped up the District 13-3A schedule April 28 with a 13-1 win over MP Chapel Hill. A 10-2 record proved good for a second-place district finish.

The Detroit Lady Eagles earned a playoff spot Tuesday with a seven-hit, fiverun season closeout, pounding the Fruitvale Lady Bobcats 5-1. Detroit hitting was led by Kayleigh Griggs (.333) with three hits, two RBIs and a run.

A 15-1 loss to Linden- Kildare ended the Rivercrest Rebels’ playoff hopes in the final game of the 2023 baseball season. While L-K dominated most innings, leadoff hitter Mark Grider’s single in the fourth that scored Cayden Williams avoided the skunk.

The Mount Vernon High School varsity baseball team will head into the playoffs with a solid third place finish in District 13-3A. The Tigers won over the Harmony Eagles to secure the finish last Friday, but fell to the Winnsboro Red Raiders Tuesday night, missing a possible second place finish.

Red Raiders Earn Area Championship in Track and Field Staff Report The Red Raiders can add Area champions to their breakout track and field season. The Winnsboro boys amassed 134 team points to top the 14team field in the April 19 meet at Atlanta.

The Lady Raiders wrapped up the District 13-3A schedule with an 8-5 win over a tough Quitman team on April 21 and secured a perfect 12-0 district record. They will play Redwater, the four-seed out of District 14, in a bestof- three series.

The Red Raiders came back from a 3-2 deficit to knock off Mount Vernon 5-3 in the final frame of Monday’s all-important contest to determine District 13-3A runner-up. Winnsboro entered the fray with an 8-2 record with both losses coming to district-leader Harmony. Mount Vernon stood 7-3 but had split with Harmony head-to-head.
