The Red Raider varsity boys track team captured the District 13-3A crown for the first time since 2008. The Winnsboro team amassed 185 points, well ahead of second-place Harmony with 101 and third-place Mount Vernon with 92. Quitman was fourth with 85 points followed by Winona (81), Mineola (51), and MP Chapel Hill (22).

The fishing duo of Porter South and Ely Peckham will represent the Winnsboro fishing team at the Texas High School Bass Association State Tournament set for May 20-21 on Lake Sam Rayburn. South and Peck ham, both freshmen, qualified out of the April 15 regional tournament held at Cedar Creek Reservoir. The duo placed fourth out of 216 boats after weighing a full bag of five fish for 14.74 pounds.

Two members of the Winnsboro Wrestling Club went on to represent Winnsboro with Team Texas USA, Andre Diaz and Karson Mc-Neil. McNeil finished this year as state champion; Diaz was last year’s runner up; and both are All-American wrestlers this year.

The Tiger Varsity Softball team shutout Chapel Hill and Winona for their wins this past week. The team has a 9-2 district record and a 21-9-1 season record for a solid second place in the playoffs.

Mount Vernon High School’s Varsity tiger Baseball team earned back to back wins in the past seven days as they continue to work for one more win to lock in a playoff berth. The Tigers are still third with a 63 district record.

The Mount Vernon High School Varsity Tiger Track and Field team finished third and the Varsity Lady Tigers were fourth in overall points for the UIL District 13-3A meet at Mineola High School last week.

The Mount Vernon High School Varsity Softball team split games this week with a win against Quitman Friday and a one point loss to Hooks Tuesday. The team has a 7-2 district record and a 19-9-1 record for the season. This puts the Tigers in second place in the district behind Winnsboro and ahead of Mineola.
