The Mount Vernon High School Varsity Tiger Baseball team is currently tied for third in district play with a season record of 11-11 and a district record of 4-3. “We have not locked in a playoff spot yet, but we are hopeful to do so,” said Jason Keeney, head baseball coach.

The Mount Vernon High School Lady Tigers won their first District UIL Championship in known school history. The Mount Vernon High School Tennis teams competed in the District 13AAA Tennis Tournament and then sent three girls to compete at the Region I University Interscholastic League Tournament.

The Winnsboro fishing team captured the Northeast Division crown for the Texas High School Bass Association with 494 points after edging Grand Saline with 493 and Rains with 492. This makes the fourth consecutive Team of the Year recognition for the Winnsboro anglers in a division stocked with 29 schools composed of 183 fishing duos.

Hayden Deaton captured gold in the long jump (20 feet, five inches) and triple jump (42-05) during the Mineola Yellowjacket Relays on April 6. David Soto finished first in the 800 (2:00.27) and second in the 3200 (9:23.82). Faith Acker earned top honors in the shot put with a toss of 35 feet, nine inches.

The Detroit Lady Eagles team split two games in the past week, losing in a nail bitter 4-3 to Alba Golden at home Friday before taking down Sulpher Bluff 12-2 Tuesday. The Lady Eagles have three games left in regular season playing at Como-Pickton Friday before retuning to play Fruitvale at home Tuesday.

Rivercrest High School’s softball Lady Rebels scored three early runs on hits by Addison Martin (So) with an RBI and Avery Martin (Sr) early in Tuesday’s matchup as Victoria Torres (So) pitched five scoreless innings until Detroit’s Braylin Craig (Sr) drove a one-run homer over the center field fence.
