In testament to to those who gave all in the fight for America’s freedom, Winnsboro American Legion Post 340 hosted a remembrance ceremony on Memorial Day in Memorial Park. Winnsboro native Legionnaire David Hightower spoke Monday, saying it took him a lot longer to get home than he thought it would.
County enters Choice Partners purchasing co-op

Wood County commissioners approved an interlocal agreement Tuesday, allowing the county to join the Choice Parnters purchasing cooperative through Harris County Department of Education. Similar to other purchasing cooperatives like BuyBoard, becoming a member comes at no cost to the county and would increase its purchasing power by streamlining the purchasing process.

Now in his 96th year, Bob Spearman of the Hamilton Community on the Franklin/Hopkins county line, known to his friends as Saltillo Rex, told the story of his youthful days in the Navy from his home on the Hopkins/Franklin county line. His story took place during the waning days of WWII, in the autumn of 1945, a most fateful time in history.
