Winnsboro tops Pottsboro, 52-28 RB Tyson Johnson and QB Kyler Finney combined for a mind-blowing 403 rushing yards Friday at Rugged Red Stadium as the Red Raiders scuttled a very good Pottsboro squad 52-28. With the victory, Winnsboro is in the driver’s seat to earn the District 5-3A crown.

The Running Raider varsity boys are District 13-3A champions for the second time in two years. They will head to the Region 2 meet Monday, October 23, at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.

The Rugged Red defense smothered Mount Vernon allowing the Tigers only 66 yards of total offense, forcing multiple turnovers, and holding the opponent to three first downs on the way to a 44-0 shutout October 6 at Don Meredith Stadium. While Mount Vernon holds the historic advantage, Winnsboro has won three of the last four meetings.

AUSTIN— Texas State Parks received the 2023 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management Wednesday morning. The National Gold Medal Award Program is governed and administered by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) and announced at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)’s annual conference.

The Varsity Tigers Volleyball Team are currently 2-4 in district play after falling to Mineola as they start the second round of 3A Region II District 13 play Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Mount Vernon High School’s Varsity Tiger Cross Country Team had two to place in the top 10 at the University Interscholastic League 3A District 13 Championships in Quitman Oct. 7.

The Mount Vernon High School Varsity Tigers took a hard to swallow shutout by long-time rivals the Winnsboro Raiders 44-0 on the Tiger’s home turf Oct. 6.
