The District 13-3A Region II All-District Volleyball honors were announced Wednesday. Nine Mount Vernon students were named to teams or received superlative honors, 10 as Academic All-District students and four received Academic All-State honors.

A high-powered and balanced offensive attack, a manhandling and relentless defense, and a killer kicking game led the Rugged Red to a 7328 rout against Teague Friday at Kaufman. With the victory, Winnsboro advances to the third round of the UIL Class 3A playoffs as one of 16 teams still standing statewide.

The Lady Raiders turned in strong performances at the Midlothian Heritage Hoopfest on November 16 18 wrapping it up with a 45-36 win in the second place game versus Mesquite Poteet. The tournament featured 10 teams divided into two divisions with pool games on Thursday and Friday and brackets Saturday.

Clarksville basketball team opens their season tonight with the season already underway for Detroit and Rivercrest as they had their season openers last week. Clarksville Veteran Coach Stanford Hill is in his 40th year of coaching and his third as head coach in Clarksville.

Clarksville Lady Tigers won their season opener at Ector Friday, 39-20. Clarksville travels to Prairiland(1-2) tonight.

It will be Tiger against Tiger in the second round of playoff games as the Mount Vernon Tigers are pitted against the Malakoff Tigers tonight, Friday, Nov. 17, at Christus Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler.

Seven members of the Red Raiders cross country team has received recognition for academic excellence by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA). Academic All-State recognizes seniors participating in high school athletics, trainers and managers who excel in grade point average, class rank and ACT/SAT scores.
