Gage Fulmer (215-pound weight class) took wins by technical fall 17-2 in two matches and won a third by fall in the Winnsboro Duals on Thursday, January 4. Teams from Whitesboro, Whitehouse, and Pittsburg competed.

After picking up two non-district wins over the Christmas break, the Lady Tigers came out ahead 55-43 over Mineola Lady Yellowjackets Tuesday. “We had a big win against Mineola,” said girls coach Stephen Ladd.

The Tigers prepare to play Chapel Hill, ranked in the top five in state, as they are coming off a 63-56 loss to Mineola at home Tuesday. “We’ve tied the same amount of games as last year, but we could play better,” said coach Brian Jacobs.

Clarksville Girls Coach Broderick Gaffney said he expects Friday’s district contest with Maud will be a toss-up “but I think we will do all right.” Fresh off a four point overtime win against North Hopkins, Gaffney’s Lady Tigers and Cardinals are an even match. “They’ve got some good players coming up from junior high that we’re not sure about,” Gaffney said, adding that his friend coach Josh Bishop has a secret weapon: his daughter, 5’7” freshman McKenzie Bishop, who averages nine points per game and has dropped in 108.

The Lady Raiders wrapped up the holidays with a second-place finish at the Lake Travis Holiday Tournament. The 18-team field was stacked with Class 5A and Class 6A teams primarily from the Austin and Houston regions.

The Mount Vernon Varsity Tigers Basketball Team edged out Winnsboro in their District 13 3A conference opener Monday night as head basketball coach Brian Jacobs says the students are now coming together to play as a team.

The Mount Vernon High School’s Varsity Lady Tiger Basketball Team fell to the Lady Raiders of Winnsboro in their District 13 - 3A opening conference game Tuesday night in Winnsboro. The Lady Tigers were shooting 40 percent on their field goals with only 12 points in the paint, and eight of 22 three point attempts scoring.
