District starts for Red River teams

Clarksville Girls Coach Broderick Gaffney said he expects Friday’s district contest with Maud will be a toss-up “but I think we will do all right.” Fresh off a four point overtime win against North Hopkins, Gaffney’s Lady Tigers and Cardinals are an even match. “They’ve got some good players coming up from junior high that we’re not sure about,” Gaffney said, adding that his friend coach Josh Bishop has a secret weapon: his daughter, 5’7” freshman McKenzie Bishop, who averages nine points per game and has dropped in 108.

Wrestling, McNeil Earns Silver, Fulmer Bronze

Karson McNeil reached the championship final in the 285-pound weight class in the Prosper Eagle’s Nest tournament held December 17. It was the first high school tournament for the freshman who earned a silver medal. McNeil won his first three matches by pinning the opponent including a win by fall over a Frisco Memorial senior to advance into the championship final.
