The Lady Tigers were to play Tatum Thursday night for round two of the playoffs. Results for the game were not available before deadline Thursday, but it was a planned up hill battle against the state-ranked team that went 29-1 and went undefeated in 3A District 16.

The Mount Vernon Tennis Teams had their first tournament of the year at Ore City. “We had a good showing with several athletes earning medals.” Said Coach Mark Bates.

Tigers to play Hooks in first round of playoffs

Winnsboro student-athletes are getting the job done in every facet of sports. Wrestling at Region 2 Gage Fulmer earned a silver medal in the 215-pound weight class at the UIL Region 2 tournament held February 9-10 at Frisco Independence High School.

A tournament this weekend will determine the remaining two playoff slots in 2A Re gion II, District 16 girls basketball. James, Bowie and Hartz Bluff stand atop the district, each at 7–3.

The Lady Tigers played their last home game Tuesday to finish the season in second place in district. Mount Vernon will play either Atlanta or Queen City for the first round of playoffs.

The Tigers play their last regular season game at home tonight against Winona. With a loss at Quitman last week, the Tigers knew Tuesday’s Harmony game at home was a must win if they had any chance left at playoffs.

The Red Raiders wrestling program continues to rise. In its fifth year, six wrestlers earned berths in the Region 2 tournament at Frisco Independence High School on February 9-10.
