The Mount Vernon Tigers swept the 2023 All-District Football selections with three of the superlative slots, six of the First Team All-District slots and five of the Second Team All-District slots and 14 Honorable Mentions.

The Winnsboro fishing team placed two fishing duos among the top three and captured a second-place team finish at Saturday’s Texas High School Bass Association tournament on Lake Tawakoni. This is their second silver finish in as many tournaments after their second-place team finish on Lake Bob Sandlin in November.

The Lady Raiders varsity captured the HoopFest championship for the second year in a row. The team registered Thursday wins over Class 5A Hallsville 67-35 and 4A Sulphur Springs 47-42, Friday wins over 5A Whitehouse 44-34 and 4A Brownsboro 42-41, and a Saturday win over 4A North Lamar 49-34.

The Rugged Red vanquished the first 13 opponents they faced this season outscoring them by an average 43 points per game. It was an historic run beginning with the first-ever 10-0 record for the regular season. The team earned the District 5-3A championship with signature wins over Mount Vernon 44-0 and Pottsboro 52-28. For the season, the team scored exactly 700 points.

Rivercrest Boys Rivercrest boys banished Lindon-Kildaire‘s six-freshman team 71-9 on November 28 after a squeaker win against the Paul Pewitt Brahmas, 5351. Defensivee stand-outs against the Tigers were turned in by juniors Kaden Williams, and Cameron Lowe.

MVHS Varsity Boys Basketball Team fell to the Pittsburg Pirates in their season opener in a tight match 59-54. Individual stats were not available at presstime.

A wrecking crew defense and high-octane offense combined with an all-star kicking game and solid special teams units have the Rugged Red headed into the fourth round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Clarksville Girls Clarksville’s Lady Tigers a stumbled hard at the hands of the Chisum Lady Mustangs on the road Monday, a 67-23 hiding made even more disappointing on the heels of a tough 45-47 loss against Prairiland on Nov. 16 and a Nov. 14 cruise over Ector 4920.

The Mount Vernon High School Varsity Tiger Football Team finished the 2023 season as Area Qualifiers in the University Interscholastic League’s Division 3A-1 playoff tournament with their 21-66 loss to the Tigers of Malakoff Nov 17.
