The Lady Raiders cranked out three more wins in recent action. After taking the 84-22 win over Harmony in the District 13-3A opener on December 12, Winnsboro registered an 84-10 win over Winona on December 15 and clipped Mount Vernon 66-40 on December 18. They capped it off with a non-district win over a highly touted Martins Mill team 34-28 on December 19. Martins Mill is ranked No. 5 in Class 2A and they were carrying a 15-2 record with losses to defending state champion Lipan and Class 4A Brownsboro.

The Red Raiders are working into basketball condition as a late entry into the season after an extended run through the UIL Class 3A football playoffs. The team opened with a 58-28 win at Rivercrest before opening the District 13-3A schedule versus Mount Vernon.

Clarksville Boys The Tigers’ sturggle continue to find a win. Clarksville’s 0-9 inexperienced, young team may begin seeing some hope as they take on the 4–7 New Boston Lions on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Mount Vernon High School Varsity Tiger Basketball Team will begin District 133A play in Winnsboro at 7:30 p.m.Monday night, Dec. 18, instead of Tuesday as previously announced.

The Varsity Lady Tiger Basketball team had a whale of a scoring frenzy in their season’s district opening game against Winona with Alayah Traylor setting a school record for points scored in a single game.

It will be an abbreviated period of preparation for the Red Raiders leading up to the start of the 2023-24 basketball season. Many area teams had started practices by early November while Winnsboro was making their way through the first four rounds of the football playoffs. The Raiders will have to work hard to make up lost ground against teams that have 14 or more games already under their belt.

The Lady Raiders manhandled Pleasant Grove 71-15 on December 5 and outlasted a good Van team 53-47 on December 8. The Lady Raiders are 12-1 over their last 13 games with a loss against Class 6A Wylie on November 20. Through that run, they have registered signature wins over Whitehouse and Brownsboro.

Clarksville Boys The Tigers prepare to play at home today at noon as they host Dodd City. Clarksville has struggled to get a win as of recent, taking two losses at home against Honey Grove, 68-36 and Mildred, 54-28, last week.
